"Whipnotic" TV Show Features "Our Family Car" (on NBC)
Preview of the segment:
Thanks to Chimaya Gallery for getting the word out to their lists!
Channel 4 (Los Angeles)
Saturday, June 27th...5:00 pm
Artist: Magu (Gilbert Lujan)
Recently, an NBC television crew from whipnotic visited the home of 'Paul',
a long time friend of Magu, and filmed an original artwork of Magu's...entitled
"Our Family Car"...along with some vintage cars of Paul's.
This show is scheduled to air Saturday, June 27th @ 5:00 pm. The
crew took about 5 hours of footage...that will be edited into a short segment.
We encourage our ChimMaya customers to watch the segment on Magu,
"Artistic Vehicles de Magulandia," an exhibit of the talented artist, Magu!
The colorful creations of Magu are the "vehicles" in which the transportation of ideas and dialogue between artist and the audience is communicated. The art is representative of the energy, life, and humor of the Chicano culture. His work is filled with bright colors that are lively and wildly imaginative which consist of low-riders, cultural aesthetics, and where anthropomorphic characters interact and dwell in the utopian society, de Magulandia.
Magu has been creating artwork in the Southern California area for over 40 years. He was the founding member of the group of Chicano artists known as, "Los Four." Soon after the group formed they had the ground breaking, first-ever, Chicano Arts exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His work has been installed at the Hollywood and Vine Red Line Metro Station, in Los Angeles. Magu went on to teach and continues to exhibit and create energetic works of art.
